Our CHHS Intro to Education Students Spending Some Time in Elementary Classrooms!
CHHS Homecoming 2024
CHHS 2024-25 Staff!

Columbia Heights is your hometown high school. We are extremely proud of our excellence, heritage and 21st-Century approach to learning, but most of all, our more than 1,100 diverse students in grades 9-12.

Columbia Heights High School is a comprehensive, public, four-year high school. It is located northeast of the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area and is part of the Independent School District #13. Current enrollment is approximately 950. In addition to being a culturally diverse school represented by multiple ethnicities, it also serves a high LEP (Limited English Proficient) population.

To help students on their path, our teachers create relationships while helping students develop lifelong learning skills for college and career readiness. As a Hylander, you will have opportunities to experience success in academics, athletics and activities that may not be available elsewhere including AVID, College Possible, GenesysWorks and more. These programs offer valuable experience through internships, life skills, college test prep and opportunities for post-secondary education - they also help us build college and career-ready graduates.

In 2016, Columbia Heights High School earned a spot on the College Board's AP Honor Roll and the District was named the "AP Small District of the Year." In 2017, Columbia Heights High School earned a Silver Medal.

We would love to share more about our school with you and invite you to enroll your student in our school. We are proud to be Hylanders and know you will be too!

CHPS Announces New Columbia Academy Principal

Columbia Heights Public Schools (CHPS) announces Leslee Sherk as the next Columbia Academy (CA) middle school principal, beginning with the 2025-2026 school year. Duane Berkas, current principal at CA, recently announced his retirement for the end of this school year after many years of service to the district.

Sherk began her career at Highland Elementary School in 1999 as a 2nd Grade Teacher. After working for a few years in St. Anthony-New Brighton, she began teaching again at Valley View Elementary in 2009. Sherk has been with CHPS for sixteen years and has worked in a variety of roles around the district, including teacher, Peer Reviewer, Dean of Students, Assistant Principal and now Principal.

“I am incredibly excited to step into the role of principal at Columbia Academy, a place that has been home to me for many years,” stated Sherk. “Having served as assistant principal here for seven years and in the district for even longer, I have developed deep relationships with our students, families and staff. I love this community! I know the challenges we face, but I also know the incredible potential we have to overcome them. Columbia Academy has always been a place of hard work, dedication and resilience. I’m committed to staying here because I’m invested in this community and I know we have what it takes to achieve great things together for our students.”
